For nearly 50 years, the Albemarle Housing Improvement Program (AHIP) has partnered with low-income homeowners across Charlottesville and Albemarle County to provide critical home repairs that keep families safe, warm, and in the homes they love.

Since 1976, we have repaired and preserved hundreds of homes — replacing failing roofs, fixing dangerous wiring, adding accessibility ramps, and addressing the health and safety hazards that put vulnerable neighbors at risk. With your support, we can continue this work so that every family in our community has a safe place to call home.

If you would like to make a gift by phone or discuss giving options, please contact our Development Director, Kathryn Kieffer, at 434-817-2447. We would be grateful for the opportunity to assist you!

You can recommend a grant to AHIP through your donor-advised fund (DAF). Most sponsoring organizations allow you to request a grant easily through their online portal or by working through your fund advisor.

Donor-Advised Funds

Gifts of stock, mutual funds, or other appreciated securities can be a tax-efficient way to support AHIP. To initiate a transfer, please take the following steps with your broker:

  • Alert your broker that you would like to transfer shares as a charitable gift to AHIP, identifying the type and number of shares you would like to contribute

    • Please note that your broker may require instructions in writing with your signature, or the completion of a form

  • Provide the following information to your broker:
