Park's Edge Apartments Receives Local Grant

The Charlottesville Albemarle Community Foundation grants $15,000 for Park’s Edge Apartments Playground and Recreational Equipment.

( Charlottesville , VA , October 8, 2004)  The residents of Park’s Edge Apartments, formerly Whitewood Village Apartments, will soon be enjoying new playground and recreational equipment thanks to a $15,000 grant from the Charlottesville – Albemarle Community Foundation (CACF).  The gift from CACF will assist in purchasing new playground and recreational equipment for all ages.  Recreational facilities will include a fenced playground for children with a geodome climber, tetherball, fun ball, swings, and spring riders. A “tot lot” with rubber surfacing and safety fencing will be provided for the pre-school children and a paved walking trail and outdoor benches are planned for older tenants.

Park’s Edge Apartments is an eight building 96-unit affordable rental complex located on Whitewood Road in Albemarle County .   Over the past year, the complex has undergone complete renovations.  Six of the eight buildings have been renovated with all new siding, windows, doors, roofing, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC as well as new interior finishes, cabinets, and appliances.  The last two buildings are scheduled to be completed by the end of November.  Included in the master plan for the complex renovation was building a new 3,500 square foot community center, the Park’s Edge Family Support and Education Center , and providing age appropriate recreational areas and equipment.

“Outdoor recreation is a key ingredient to the success of Park’s Edge and the Family Support and Education Center ”, says AHIP’s Executive Director, Theresa Tapscott.  “AHIP and Park’s Edge tenants recognize the importance of outdoor activities in promoting a sense of community, childhood development through play and exercise, and tenants taking ownership in their complex and it’s future.  The Charlottesville-Albemarle Community Foundation grant is a tremendous help in reaching our goals of providing recreational opportunities for our tenants.”
