Emergency home repair

The Emergency Home Repair Program takes care of minor but urgent repairs that, if left undone, would threaten a family’s health and safety.

The program serves low-income families in Albemarle County and the City of Charlottesville.

The Emergency Home Repair program allows AHIP to:

  • repair exposed electrical wires
  • replace a sparking receptacle
  • repair a faulty water heater or replace it altogether
  • patch a leaking roof
  • fix a broken pipe
  • reinforce or replace loose balcony or stair railings
  • reinforce or replace dangerous stairs
  • replace a broken door or window
  • install or replace smoke detectors
  • install a grab bar or handicap-access ramp
  • repair or replace a failed window air-conditioning unit
  • make general mobile home repairs
  • and much more

This program is largely supported by generous local funders, including the County of Albemarle, the City of Charlottesville, Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Bama Works Fund of Dave Matthews Band, Wachovia Foundation, and Charlottesville Area Community Foundation. It is also supported in part by funds from the state of Virginia.
