volunteer center

AHIP got its start as an all-volunteer effort, and still provides year-round opportunities for neighbors to help neighbors. Last year, we hosted more than 300 volunteers and dozens of groups who came out in all kinds of weather to build ramps, tear out and put up siding, install flooring, and make a variety of home and mobile home repairs. We have projects for volunteers of all ages and experience levels. For some projects, we can provide on-the-job training for volunteers who want to learn new skills.

In addition to building and repair projects, we have opportunities for volunteers who are interested in working with kids ages four to 11 at the Park’s Edge After School program.

Volunteer tasks include:

  • Helping construct brand-new houses
  • Installing laminate and wood flooring
  • Landscaping and repair projects at Park’s Edge Apartments
  •  Tearing off and putting up new siding
  • Installing windows and doors
  • Building a handicap access ramp
  • Making mobile home repairs
  • Roofing
  • Interior and exterior house painting
  • Painting and repairing a trailer roof
  • Mentoring and tutoring at Park’s Edge After School

The hands-on help of our volunteers boosts our ability to serve more households and do more for each household we serve. And the cost savings that volunteers bring help us significantly stretch our donors’ dollars.

Join our community crews, and help us make healthy housing the foundation of a healthy community. No experience is necessary.
