Dave Matthews Band Awards Grant To Local After School Program

The BAMA Works Fund donates $3,000 the Park’s Edge Apartments after school program for low-income children.

(Charlottesville, VA, January 12, 2005)   BAMA Works, the charitable giving fund of The Dave Matthews Band, donated $3,000 to The Albemarle Housing Improvement Program, Inc. (AHIP) to support the Park’s Edge after-school program.  The BAMA Works Fund is managed by the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation and supports charitable programs in the Charlottesville area.

Park’s Edge Apartments, formerly Whitewood Village, is a 96-unit complex located on Whitewood Road in the county.  The entire complex has been completely renovated with new exteriors, interiors, mechanicals and appliances.  Included in the renovation plan was to build a 3200 square foot Family Education and Support Community Center.  With the center completed in August, AHIP partnered with the Piedmont Family YMCA and opened it’s door to provide after-school programming for the children of the Park’s Edge.  “The Piedmont YMCA brings to the table a well established and time tested after-school curriculum along with trained and experienced staff to supervise the children’s activities”, says AHIP Executive Director, Theresa Tapscott.  “Park’s Edge parents are excited about this opportunity for their children when otherwise the cost would have been prohibitive in the private sector.”

Funding for the after-school program is supported solely by donations from foundations, corporations, and private citizens.  If you would like to make a tax-deductible contribution, please send a check to
